Sandra Joyce (Frazier) Evans

Passed Away on January 26, 2019


Sandra Joyce (Frazier) Evans, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully Friday evening from extensive and fast moving gallbladder cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family in her last week.

Sandra, or Sandie as she was known, was born on July 15, 1939 in Elwood City, PA. She was the one and only child of Anna Margaret Cable and Robert Lee Frazier. She was adored by her mother and was the apple of her father’s eye.

When Sandie was 8, her family moved across the country to South Gate, CA. She and her family were active members in Eastern Star. She graduated from South Gate High School in 1957 and began to pursue a career as a stewardess. But first, she met a tall, dark and handsome guy from Paramount. His name was Nile Evans. They fell in love and were married on April 11, 1959.

Her dreams of traveling the world were gladly put on hold. Shortly after she and Nile were married, she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she held many callings of service. In September of 1960 they welcomed a son, Brent, followed by four more children Bob, Kathleen, Kym and Vicki. The family moved to Cypress CA and remained there until they were transferred to Mesa AZ in 1995.

Sandie had many talents including sewing, playing the piano and organ, and crafting. She was an avid sports fan and loved to watch her grandchildren in various sporting activities. In her later years, she fulfilled her dream of traveling, visiting over 70 countries and 20 island nations. Sandie, along with her husband Nile, enjoyed serving a two year mission in Nauvoo, Illinois. She also served as a temple ordinance worker at the Mesa LDS Temple for 7 years.

Sandie is survived by her husband, Nile, her five children, Brent (Kathy) Evans, Bob (Tricia) Evans, Kathleen(Brad) Bunnell, Kym (Steve) Garrett, Vicki (Doug) Cornelius.Her grandchildren are Clark Evans, Chad Evans, Rachelle Kenyon, Kyle Evans, Jake Evans, Luke Evans, Rebecca Speakman, Brian Bunnell, Robert Bunnell, Alec Garrett, Emilee Garrett, Jake Garrett, Maggie Cornelius and Cooper Cornelius. Her Great Grandchildren are Aedon Kenyon, Mitchell Kenyon, Zack Kenyon, Auden Speakman, Margaret Speakman, Henry Speakman and Lilo Evans.

Sandie is preceded in death by her mother, Anna Margaret Frazier, and her father Robert Frazier. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26, at 1:00 pm. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4640 East Holmes Ave, Mesa, AZ. As per Sandie’s request there will be no viewing. Internment and dedication of the grave immediately following the service at Mountain View Cemetery, 7900 East Main Street, Mesa, AZ
