On Friday, October 9, 2020, Raymond (Ray) F. Burnett Jr. died from complications of Parkinson’s at the age of 88. Ray is survived by his wife of 65 years Mary Scheid Burnett; his four children and their spouses Kevin and Lois Ann (L.A.) Burnett, David and Shelley Burnett, Cheryl and Bob Nazzaro, and Stephen and Cathy Burnett; 5 grandchildren Kelly, Casey, Kristin, Nicole, and Mathew; and his sister Marie (Sister Mary Dorothy SSJ).
Ray was an Army Veteran and served in the Korean War. He was a 31-year employee of Gannett, where he started as a printer at the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, and earned a number of managerial promotions working in several Gannett subsidiaries located in Rochester, NY, Roselynn, VA and Louisville, KY.
Ray was very active in the Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. In retirement he loved golf, lawn bowling, and spent a number of years traveling across the country with Mary in their motor home.
A private family service will be held on October 23 at Mountain View Funeral Home in Mesa, AZ, with a public memorial service on December 11 at Holy Cross Church in Mesa, AZ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Ray be directed to Family Comfort Hospice & Palliative Care, 7975 N. Hayden Rd, Suite A-200, Scottsdale, AZ 85258 or to the American Parkinson’s Association (www.apdaparkinson.org)

    Mary, we just learned of the passing of Ray. He was one of the first Mesa Knights we met and loved being around you and him at every Knight’s function. Although we are many miles away both Ray and you are in our thoughts and prayers.
