Forever In the Hearts They Leave Behind

Nicholas Andres LeRoy

September 23, 1984 – December 13, 2020

Nicholas Andres LeRoy passed away on December 13, 2020 in Mesa, Arizona. Born on September 23, 1984, he was a fourth generation Arizona native and lived his life in the Phoenix area from birth.  Friends and colleagues called him “Nick”.  He was affectionately called “Nico” by family and “Guero” by his Tata Louis.

Nico was proud of his national EMT certification and treasured the friendships made and lives saved during his years of service at Southwest Ambulance.  He turned his love of driving into a career as a long-haul trucker earning all the certifications available through his CDL license.  It was not unusual for him to receive constant job offers from competing trucking companies.

Nico is survived by his wife Kayla and the most precious lights of his life, his daughter Jovanna (13) and son Nicholas, Jr. (11).  He is also survived by his parents Scott and Isabel; his brother Jesse, sister-in-law Michelle and nieces Adisen and Avery; his brother since second grade from another mother, Jorge Dominguez (Karen).  Extended family meant everything to Nico.  He is survived by his uncle Jose (Jess), uncle Arturo (Cathy), aunts Nina (Rick), Silvia (Ricky), Camille (Rich).  Also surviving him are uncles Mark (Kathy), Chris (Fany), and aunt Diane, along with great aunts Angie, Tencha, and many loving cousins.

Nico’s memorial service will be Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 2:00 p.m.  The service will be officiated by the Most Reverend Jorge Eagar and held at Mountain View Home and Cemetery, 7900 E. Main Street, Mesa, AZ (480.832.2850).  The service will be Zoomed for those not attending in person.

The spreading of Nico’s ashes will take place June 2021 at Big Lake, Arizona, his favorite place to camp with family and friends.

Barbeques were Nico’s favorite type of gathering.  A BBQ to celebrate his life is tentatively scheduled for mid-June 2021 when Covid-19 restrictions may have eased somewhat.  Details will be shared via various social media outlets.

Thank you to all of the wonderfully kind and loving people who help hold us together, support us and guide us through this exceedingly difficult time.  Sunflowers were Nico’s favorite flower.  Please plant, water, and grow a sunflower seed in his memory.

While I never had the privilege to meet Nico, I work with his dad, Scott, and knew of him through Scott’s loving stories of his son. I always felt how proud Scott was of his son and how much love was shared throughout the family. I know the grief the family feels is heavy, but know that over time the loving memories will shoulder more of that weight. May you feel God’s love and grace during this very difficult time.

Nico, while being such a quiet kid, his knowing side glance, quick half smile and belly laugh made you know he was always WITH you and he always will be. Hoping everyone can eventually find their own peace with their heartbreaking loss.

Scott, thinking of you and yours as always. May God hold you in the palms of his hands during your most difficult moments.
