Kenneth Ray Hudson, was born the only child of James Curtis and Gladys Marie Hudson in Memphis Tennessee, on August 22, 1938. Ken passed from this world into eternal glory on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, age 80, in Mesa, Arizona.
He was married to Delcia Faye Vandemark on Jan. 19, 1957. Ken and Delcia modeled faithfulness and commitment these last 62 years. He is survived by his wife and two children. He is the father to a son, Dr. Darrell Hudson, and wife Julie of Georgetown Texas; and a daughter, Deborah, and husband Greg Bell of Waxahachie, Texas. He is survived by three grandchildren Joshua Bell, Andrew Hudson, Jerica Bell and numerous family members.
Ken graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Sciences from Grand Canyon College in Phoenix, Arizona in 1973. He earned a Master’s Degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas in 1975. He was an ordained minister of the gospel of Christ Jesus, and a licensed Southern Baptist Minister. Ken, Pastored churches in Kentucky, Arizona, and Texas. He also worked as a youth minister and an Associate to other pastors as well.
For several years before declining health forced him to retire from public life, he served the Dallas County Juvenile Department as a certified Probation Officer. While working as a social worker, he was especially fond of young people and helped thousands who had severe family and spiritual challenges. with his support and counseling in churches and with Dallas and Tarrant Counties Juvenile Services.
In 2006, Ken and Delcia moved to Arizona, and settled in Apache Junction. They are faithful members of Hi-Way Baptist Church in Mesa, Arizona. The Hudson’s have built enduring relationships and friendships with many in Arizona.
Ken can be described as a caring and empowering mentor/counselor to all, especially his children, grandchildren, and extended family members. He was faithful to his Lord in his personal life and public life. Ken had a giftedness to teach the Bible, studying and memorizing scripture up to his last days. It was this foundation that enabled him endure hardships and health tribulations the last years of his life. When asked recently by a family member, “are you growing weary of your journey”; Ken thought a moment and replied, ”It’s an opportunity to trust God”. His legacy endures today.
