Barbara Short died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 27. She was 89.

Born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, she was the daughter of Guy and Dorothy Rostofer. She made her home in Mesa, Arizona, for 45 years with her husband, William H. Short, who preceded her in death. They were married for 63 years and raised five children, Marian Bass of Mesa, Stephen Short (Debi) of Gilbert, AZ, William Short (Donna) of Mesa, and Allen Short of Rockford, IL. Another son, Brian, preceded her in death on January 13, 2019.

Barbara had 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed doing volunteer work and was a regular volunteer in the neighborhood school’s kindergarten and in her daughter’s gifted classes for 17 years. Barbara was an avid swimmer and enjoyed dancing with her husband.

She and her husband were Heritage Guild members of the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation and generously contributed to breakthrough medical research.

A private visitation and interment will be at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, with a memorial service to follow in December.
