Steven Allen Barr was born in Mesa, Arizona, on October 1, 1954, and entered into rest on September 12, 2017.
Steve attended Mesa schools and graduated from Westwood High School in 1972. He went on to Mesa Community College and Reformed Episcopal Seminary in Philadelphia. After graduation, Steve and Janet were married in Mesa, in August of 1978.
Steve’s working career began in retail and construction. After graduation from Ottawa University he also worked in education, manufacturing, and transportation. Along with his many interests and abilities, Steve had a strong work ethic and good health. He rarely took a sick day.
As a young man Steve was challenged to put his faith in Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sins and hope for eternal life. His faith was bolstered by teaching on the book of Genesis and creation. He confidently asserted that there is no conflict between the Bible and history or science. Steve’s family is grateful to the exceptional caregivers of Sanctuary Hospice.
Steve is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Joel Barr (Janel), David Barr, and Jennifer Jacks (Peter); grandchildren Jude, Jennah, Jonah (Barr), Averi, Caroline, Quincy, and Montgomery (Jacks); mother, Esther Barr; siblings, Connie Thomas, Donna Paulk, Dennis Barr, and Barbara Miller; nieces and nephews.
Services are to be held Saturday, September 23. The graveside service will be at Mountain View Memorial Gardens at 9:00 AM. The memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM at Church of the Redeemer, 717 N Stapley Dr. Mesa, Arizona 85203.
