Sammie Mae Coe, a longtime resident of the Mesa area, passed away Saturday the 27th of October, 2018. Born in 1937 in Anderson, South Carolina, Sammie graduated from West High School and received her associates of art degree at Mesa Community College. She worked in the federal civil service for over 20 years, eventually returning to Mesa Community College to assist college students with registration and financial aid. Upon retirement, she enjoyed cruises (Alaska, Panama Canal, the Caribbean) and memorable trips to Hawaii, Denver, Las Vegas, Washington, D.C., London, Paris, and Rome.
Sammie served tirelessly on behalf of her church, teaching Sunday School, caring for children, and giving food and clothing to families in need. She understood the importance of a well-managed home, and she took pride in preparing delicious Southern dishes for loved ones. She looked forward to celebrating the holidays surrounded by family and friends.
Sammie is survived by Charles Coe, her husband of 60 years; her children: Pamela Coe, Cynthia Coe, and Jeffrey Coe; her sister Barbara Crosby and brother-in-law, Clarence Crosby, Sr.; her brother Harold Rice; and her eight grandchildren: Daniel Coe, Jacqueline Coe, Jessica Coe, Brian Bromberg, Danielle Bromberg, Laura Aragon, Elena Aragon, Christopher Aragon, and additional nieces, nephews, and extended family.
There will be a visitation for Sammie Friday, November 2, 2018 from 4-6 pm at Mountain View Funeral Home chapel, 7900 E. Main St., Mesa, AZ 85207. The Service will be Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 10:30 am at We Are The Word Church, 931 S Stapley Dr, Mesa, AZ 85204. Interment at National Memorial Cemetery of AZ, 23029 Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024, will be Monday, November 5th at 12:30 pm.
