Raymond (Ray) Dean Hanchett

Passed on August 15, 2018 at the age of 72 at his home in Mesa, AZ, with his family around him. Ray fought a long, hard battle with heart disease and diabetes. Ray was born on July 19,1946 in Sigourney, Iowa. His parents were Ivan and Laurine ( Johnston) Hanchett. He spent his formative years in the North English, Millersburg and Keswick area of Iowa.

At the age of 16, he and his family moved to Denver, CO. He attended and graduated from East High School in Denver in 1964. In 1966 he entered the United States Army and was stationed at Wildflicken, Germany until his honorable discharge in 1969. He returned to the Denver area where he worked at a Jeep Dealership until he opened and operated a 4-Wheel drive repair business in Englewood, CO. In 1999 he changed his careers and purchased a Mailing Equipment Co which he sold in 2010.

He married Jane (Owen) Hanchett on August 27, 1970. She and his two sisters were at his side when he passed: Janet Bannan and Virginia Komemda, both also of Mesa, Az. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, and innumerable friends.

He acquired a hobby of Silver Smithing after moving to Arizona and made many pieces of jewelry for family and friends. He was the Coordinator and taught Silver Smithing classes at Valle Del Oro Senior Resort, where he & Jane resided. He will be sorely missed in that shop at VDO.

A public memorial service will be held in the fall at VDO after his winter friends return for the season. Announcement will come at a later time on FaceBook.
