Peggy Gutierrez

May 4, 1936 – January 19, 2018

Peggy Gutierrez (Pacheco) passed into peaceful rest on January 19, 2018, in Mesa, Arizona.  Peggy was born on May 4, 1936, in Phoenix, Arizona, the eldest of six children born to Matt and Belen Pacheco.  She graduated from Superior High School, where she captained the pompom squad, sang in the choir, and was an active member of the Pep Club.  After graduation, she met and married a handsome Army paratrooper named John Gutierrez, with whom she had three sons, and two daughters. The grandchildren and great grandchildren who followed were one of the happiest parts of Peggy’s later years, and they will especially miss their beloved Nana.

Family was the focus of Peggy’s life, and she and Johnny raised all their children in Superior.  Peggy was active in the St. Francis Catholic Church, the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary, and various other community activities.  She absolutely loved singing in the church choir, where she sang with many of her dear friends, and her beautiful voice was often heard at St. Francis, singing in both English and Spanish.  Peggy also worked at Motorola in Mesa, commuting from Superior for several years.

Peggy was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, Johnny, her youngest son, Anthony, and her brother Louie.  Peggy is survived by her children, John Gutierrez, Lorena Macias, (Louis), Jimmy Gutierrez, and Audrey Campos, (Steven). She was blessed with nine grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.  Peggy also is survived by her brothers Matt and Richard Pacheco, and her sisters Betty Paredes and Linda Cavazos, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Peggy Gutierrez touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who are comforted by knowing that after a long and loving life, she can now rest peacefully within the loving arms of her Lord, and be joyfully reunited with her beloved husband and son.

A Mass in celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 29, 2018 at Holy Cross Catholic Church located at 1244 South Power Road, Mesa, AZ 85206, with inurnment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery located at 7900 East Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85207.
