Leo Ray Sabin
Born on his family farm near Princeton, Illinois on January 4, 1931. Passed away at the age of 87 on August 10, 2018.
Leo was one of 13 kids born to Florence and Edward Sabin. He was the last surviving of his siblings.
Leo graduated third in his class from Malden High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Quincy during the Korean Conflict.
He married the love of his life Gail (Edwards), whom he always said he could not live without. They raised their three sons ( Jerry, Mike, and Don) in Calumet City, Illinois, and never missed one of their events. He was a devoted husband and father with a fun sense of humor; always ready with a joke or a story to tell.
When Leo retired from Republic Steel in Chicago in 1987, he moved with Gail to Sunland Village East in Mesa, Arizona. He enjoyed his retirement by playing softball, tennis and bowling with his friends and fellow residents.
Leo is survived by his wife of 65 years Gail; his son’s Jerry (Gerly), Michael (Catherine), and Donald (Adrienne); his grandchildren Bridget Sabin, Jeffrey (Mary) Sabin, Sandra (Matthew) Rom, Matthew Sabin, Emily Sabin (soon to be married to Julio Fernandez); great grandchildren Gordon Rom, Addison Rom, and Paxton Rom; 29 nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
