Larry Dean (Coach) Elliott, was born on February 10, 1944 in Wichita, KS to Margaret (Beason) and Maurice Elliott. Larry passed away quietly at home in Apache Junction, AZ on May 1, 2018.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Mary (Gilbert) and their son, Bradley and wife Jenifer of Elmhurst, IL. His brother, Dick and wife Dena live in Wichita, KS. His parents, older brother Robert and wife Joyce preceded him in death. Other closely thought of relatives, nephews and nieces are throughout Kansas and a few other states.
Larry was an athlete and good at many sports all through his school years. All-State in both basketball and baseball at Benton H.S. and a scholarship player at Phillips University, Enid, OK and KSTC, Emporia, KS where he played basketball and was a pitcher for the baseball team. He finished up with a Master’s Degree from KSTC and was a temporary Asst. Basketball Coach there for one year while finishing his Master’s. He spent 30 years teaching at Washington High School in K.C., KS where he coached Boys’ Basketball and Girls’ Softball. In 2016-17, he was inducted to the Hall of Fame at W.H.S. Warm winters and his love of golf brought him to Apache Junction, AZ where he has made many new friends. He was a friend to all who met him. By request of Larry, no services will be held.
