John Donald “Eric” Erickson, 91, of Mesa passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010. Born October 31, 1918 in Minneapolis, MN to John and Elizabeth Erickson, John served our country proudly for 30 years as a soldier in WWII and then in a variety of assignments and overseas tours in Japan, Korea and Germany. He was awarded 3 battle stars in the European and Middle East Theatre, the Bronze Star, and the Legion of Merit with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired as a full Colonel in 1970 and moved to Prescott with his wife and children where they lived for 35 years. In 2005 he moved to Mesa to be closer to his daughters. His beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Mary, predeceased him in December of 1996. John is survived and missed by his children Christine, George and Lynn and his sister Doris Keller. He also leaves 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Services will be held on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 10:00 am at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 612 S. Ellsworth Rd., Mesa, AZ. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
