Doreen A. Sale-Helton of Mesa passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 11, 2018 at the age of 94.
Doreen was born on November 11, 1923 in Ortonville, MN to Almo and Esther Berdan and raised on the family farm. She married Jack Sale in 1945 and moved to Flathead Lake Montana where their son Jay Dee was born.
In 1959 they moved to Mesa, AZ due to Jack’s health where she lovingly cared for him until his death in 1970. She eventually remarried Johnnie Helton in 1977 during which time they built a summer cabin in Heber, AZ. Johnnie passed away in 1990 and Doreen continued spending each summer at the cabin surrounded by her many friends and fellow Pine Needlers’ Quilt Group. Her passion for quilting earned her the recognition as the Quilter of the Year.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jack and her second husband Johnnie, her parents, her 3 brothers Everard Berdan, Wayne Berdan and Pat Berdan.
Survivors include her son Jay Dee Sale (Binki), grandson Jayson Sale (Joni), great-granddaughters Jaelyn and Jordyn Sale, her step-daughter Tora Consolo, her step-son Steve Helton, Von Wilcken who she thought of as a grandson and many nieces and nephews that meant so much to her.
Memorial services will be held on Wed. October 17 at 2:00pm at Mountain View Funeral Home, 7900 E. Main St., Mesa, AZ 85207. The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations to Hospice of the Valley.
