Delmas “Del” Ballentyne, passed away on October 28, 2016 at 75. Del was born December 16, 1940 in Washington, PA to Harold and Thelma Ballentyne.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jan, his son Tim (Jess), daughters Tamara (Wade Pew) and Kim (Tim Krigbaum), 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Merle (Marion) and sister Helen Rusinek.
Del served eight years in the Army National Guard where he proudly served his country. He joined the Mesa Police Department in October of 1963 and retired in August of 1992 as the Assistant Chief of Police. Some of his accomplishments include starting the Air Detail (he was already a pilot so it made him a natural to fly). He also assisted in forming the Swat Team in which his grandson is a member of today.
While he loved his time on the police force, he loved the outdoors even more. He and his wife started going to the sand dunes in 1975 with their kids. He continued the annual dune trips up to last season. He also enjoyed spending time at the Cabin that he and Jan built in 1980. This was his favorite place to go and just get away.
Del to some, but “Dad” to most. Del’s family was blessed to have him in their lives and he will be missed by many.
