Anna Lillian Miller, 87, passed away March 15, 2020 in Chandler, Arizona. She was born October 4, 1932 in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania to Earl and Ruth (Greasemer) Grube. She grew up in rural Pennsylvania with her 2 sisters, Dorothy (Grube) Spaulding and Betty (Grube) Ryder, and her 2 brothers, Stanley Grube and Dr. Gerald Grube. Anna went through elementary and high school near where she lived. She later entered Washington Missionary College, in Maryland, where she became a registered nurse. During this time at WMC, she met and married her husband, Henry Robert Miller. They were married for 58 wonderful years together.
Anna began her nursing career at the Easton Hospital in Pennsylvania. She later moved to the Allentown Osteopathic Hospital where she served until she and Henry decided to move west. In 1971, she and Henry moved to Scottsdale, Arizona to start a new life. She found a position at the Phoenix General Hospital in central Phoenix. Anna spent nearly 12 years at that hospital until it ceased operations in the early 1980s. She was transferred to the new Phoenix General Hospital in northern Phoenix for several years until she moved to her final job at the Chandler Regional Hospital. During all those years, she worked in the labor/delivery ward, emergency department, and OB/GYN department of the various hospitals. She helped many women, throughout her career, as they were going through this time in their lives.
Anna was a gardening enthusiast, loved to bake, and traveled once a year to Pennsylvania to visit her parents and sisters. She also enjoyed taking a yearly trip to California to see her brothers and their families. She was also known as the pie queen among the family. She once baked 23 pies for the yearly California trip just before Thanksgiving. She enjoyed making two Pennsylvania Dutch favorites, Shoo-Fly and Funny Cake among many other flavors.
As life progressed, Henry passed away in May of 2012. Anna sold the family home in Gilbert and moved into an apartment in Mesa. She spent the next 4 years at this location. Anna’s health began to deteriorate during her stay at the apartment. Her son, Hugh, moved her to her next stage of life, where trained staff could help her with her needs. She moved into an assisted living home in Gilbert, Arizona. Later she moved to an assisted living home in Chandler to be closer to a hospital if she would need it. She died on March 15, 2020 at the Chandler Regional Medical Center.
She is survived by her son, Hugh R. Miller, her daughter-in-law, Pamela K. Martin-Miller, her grandchild, Quentin T. Martin, wife, Michelle (Fowler) Martin, and her great-grandchildren, Kyrie Martin and Josiah Martin.
The family would like to thank you for your prayers during this difficult time. We know we will see our dear sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend some day at the last trumpet. Thank you to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
